A licensed plumber answers, day or night. The first questions never change: what is failing, and what have you already shut off. Start on the Cashmere page for the full catalogue, or read on for the sorting, the shut-offs and the rules.

What Counts as a Plumbing Emergency
Gas smells come first, then a burst pipe or heavy water loss, a total loss of supply, a blocked or broken toilet, and flooding. Everything else can hold for a booked visit.
The list matters most in a rental. Queensland tenancy law names the emergency repairs, and any repair the law does not name is routine. A tenant tells the emergency contact listed on the tenancy agreement as soon as the problem is known, and a verbal report is enough.
One boundary case sits at the front of the block. A leak inside the meter box, or soggy ground around a stopped meter, sits on the water utility's side of the pipe. That report goes to the utility rather than to us.

Three Checks Before You Ring
Plumbing trouble right now? Three quick checks:
- Water you can't stop: turn off the valve at your water meter first, then call (07) 3524 0766.
- Gas you can smell inside: switch the appliance off, open up doors and windows, and leave light switches and power points as they are. Smell still there? Turn off the gas supply and ring (07) 3524 0766, or 000 if it won't clear.
- A drip or a cistern that won't stop filling: this is a booked job, not an emergency. Ring (07) 3524 0766 to set a time.
There's no extra fee for nights, weekends or public holidays, and we're available 24/7.

Stop the Water and Gas Before You Call
Shut off whatever feeds the fault first: the isolation valve at one fixture, the stop tap at the meter for the whole house, or the gas at the meter or bottle. Then ring with the supply contained.
One fixture leaking
its isolation valve closes the water to that fixture alone and leaves the rest of the home running.
The whole house
the meter tap closes by turning it clockwise. The meter sits near the front boundary in a shallow box flush with the lawn.
Before closing the meter tap
check that shutting the water off will not damage an appliance that depends on it, such as the water heater.
Gas you can smell
turn the gas appliance off, air the place out, and leave every switch untouched. Do not light a flame.
A smell that stays
close the gas at the meter or the bottle when it is safe to get to, then ring us, or 000 if it keeps hanging about.
One acreage wrinkle is worth knowing. On the larger properties the hot water unit can sit well away from the meter, so the walk between the two valves adds minutes while water keeps running. Finding both taps before a storm night is worth ten minutes of any Sunday.

Who Repairs a Gas Leak, Broken Pipe or Drain
A licensed gasfitter takes the gas work, and a QBCC licensee mends the broken pipe or clears the blocked sanitary drain. Both jobs sit in Queensland's minor work category: a licensee does them without a permit and without lodging a Form 4.
A Form 4 is the paperwork a plumber files with the QBCC once a notifiable job wraps up. Minor work never needs one, so nothing official stands between your call and the repair.
Your part is the valves, ours is the mending. The gas side of an urgent call has its own detail on the gas leak repairs page, and a burst line runs through burst pipe repairs.

Dripping Taps Wait, Burst Pipes Do Not
A fault contained at one fixture and staying put can wait for a booked visit; gas indoors, sewage backing up or unstoppable water cannot, whatever the clock says. Isolate first, then decide.
Call now
gas indoors, sewage rising at a floor waste, or water pouring through a ceiling or near a power point.
Can wait
a tap dribbling at the spout, a basin draining slowly, or a cistern that refills noisily overnight. A daytime toilet repairs booking suits all three better than a midnight ring.
Hidden losses
a damp patch spreading on a lawn, or a bill that jumps for no reason, belongs with leak detection rather than the urgent line.
In a rental
the tenancy law's list decides, so check it before ringing an after-hours number for something routine.
The storm season runs from November to March, and thunderstorms roll through it. The overland flow paths mapped along Peppermint Drive and Ron Bischof Close dump surges into lot drains, so a pit that floods in a storm can climb the urgency ladder fast.

Emergency Questions We Answer
Call (07) 3524 0766What counts as a plumbing emergency in Cashmere?
Gas indoors, a burst pipe or a heavy leak, a total loss of water or gas, a blocked or broken toilet, and flooding all count as emergencies. In a rental, Queensland's tenancy law names the urgent repairs, and anything it leaves off the list is routine.
Where is the main water shut-off at my place?
Your shut-off sits at the water meter, usually in a shallow box flush with the lawn near the front boundary. Close it by turning clockwise, and check first that nothing relies on the running supply, such as the water heater. Each fixture also carries its own isolation valve.
Is a leak at the meter Unitywater's job or a plumber's?
Soggy ground around a meter that has stopped turning points to the utility's side, so report it to Unitywater. A meter still ticking over with wet ground points to your side, which a licensed plumber handles. Water filling the meter box also points to a leak at or near the meter.
What if the whole street has no water?
A street with every tap dry means the fault sits on the utility's side of the meter, so their faults line handles it. If only your place is dry, check the meter tap is open and look at your pipes between the meter and the fixtures, then ring us if the fault is on your side.
Who can legally repair a gas leak?
Only a licensed gasfitter may do gas work, which covers repairs, servicing, testing and certification of a gas system. Shut the supply at the meter or bottle first when it is safe to get to. If the smell will not clear once the gas is off, call 000.
