Sink Work
New sinks, renewed wastes and trap fixes, from brick-veneer kitchens near Jan Sked Reserve to acreage blocks along Lilley Road:
Kitchen and laundry plumbing covers four sets of parts: the supplies feeding each tap, the waste pipes, the traps and the connections serving each appliance. A kitchen plumber in Cashmere from Cashmere Plumbing Services does all of it, from a weeping sink trap to a full laundry refit. Every job is done by a licensed plumber.
If we're late, $100 comes off your bill

Start with the Cashmere home page for the whole catalogue, grouped by the part of the property. This page keeps to the two appliance rooms: what they contain, who may work on them, and how a visit runs.

Kitchen and laundry plumbing is the set of parts that carries water to and from your sink, dishwasher and washing machine. The parts, in the order water meets them:
the hot pipe and the cold pipe feeding the sink tap, the dishwasher and the laundry taps.
the pipe taking used water away from the basket or the tub.
the water seal each fixture keeps between the room and the drain.
the buried line joining every fixture in the house to the sewer.
Under a standard sink, one hot line and one cold line feed the tap, each through a small valve. The waste leaves the basket, passes the trap and joins the waste pipe. The private sanitary drain then carries the lot out.
The private sanitary drain serves the whole house, not just these rooms. Sinks and toilets alike can discharge into it, because each fixture traps its own water on the way through.
The laundry runs the same pattern in general terms: the tub or trough, wall taps serving the machine, and the waste from each one out to the same drain.

A licensed plumber does nearly all of it, because Queensland leaves only a short QBCC list of small tasks outside licensing. The split works like this:
the jumper valve and washer inside a tap, plus cartridges for domestic water filters, may be renewed by a householder who knows the job, though the standard still applies to the result.
repairs and like-for-like swaps of fixtures count as minor work, which your QBCC licensee does without permits or paperwork.
new waste points, relocated supplies and fresh hook-ups all need the licence.
A filter cartridge swap stays on the unregulated list. Changing the housing or the line to the tap returns to licensed work.

Each appliance gets protection from an isolation valve, a wall tap or the stop tap at the water meter. An isolation valve closes one fixture alone, so the rest of the house keeps its water while you deal with a leaking machine:
small valves where each supply meets the tap.
every dishwasher and washer connects through its own valve or a nearby wall tap, so either shuts down for a hose change.
if no local valve works, the stop tap on the water meter shuts everything when you turn it clockwise. Check first that nothing, the hot water unit included, relies on that line.
If you know your valve spots, a burst hose becomes a short shutdown instead of a wet floor. The braided hoses under sinks and behind washers give way before the pipes do, and our flexi hose replacement page covers that swap.

Notifiable work is plumbing change in an existing house that needs no council permit, only a Form 4 to the QBCC. A kitchen renovation sits in that category, and so does relocating a fixture such as a sink, a tub or an appliance to a new spot.
The form goes in within 10 business days of finishing, and you receive your copy as the owner. If the form goes missing, ask the QBCC for a copy.
Two situations sit outside the simple path:
council approval applies to some unit renovations.
a new fixture on a drain serving several lots is permit work.
Census figures put 99.2 per cent of dwellings in Cashmere as separate houses, so permit situations stay rare here. Still, tell us your property type before any renovation plumbing starts.
Most of our kitchen and laundry visits fall under three pages, and each page carries the full detail on its job:

A kitchen plumber covers the sink, its taps, the waste and the trap, plus the hook-ups behind your dishwasher, filter and washing machine. The laundry tub sits on the same run, and each job type has its own page below for the full detail.
Yes, both can. Each fixture drains through a separate trap into the buried private line serving the whole house, which joins your place to the council sewer.
The tub or trough, the wall taps feeding the washing machine, and the waste taking the water out to the drain. Hoses, valves and connections on that run get checked during a visit too.
No, a kitchen renovation in a detached house needs no council permit; the work is notifiable, so the QBCC receives a Form 4 within 10 business days. Units and shared-drain buildings can need a permit, so mention your property type when you call.
At joints and connections, such as the trap and waste joins under a sink, a tap's base, the supply hook-ups and the braided hoses behind machines. Our flexi hose replacement page has the detail on that last one.
