Gas Compliance Certificates in Cashmere
Gas compliance certificates close out finished gas work in Cashmere. The certificate is written confirmation from the licence holder that a completed gas installation or alteration complies, handed to you as the owner the moment the work wraps up. Our Cashmere gasfitters issue them as part of the gas fitting work we do across the suburb, from cooktop connections on acreage blocks to new bayonet points on a patio.

Not every gas job produces one. Certificates attach to installs and alterations, so a routine service or a repair will not always end with this paperwork in your hands.

Compliance Certificate Versus Defect Notice
The certificate is the licensed gasfitter's signed statement that a finished gas system installation or alteration complies. The document applies only when gas work installs or alters a system, and the gasfitter gives it to you immediately on completion.
A defect notice is the other document, and it travels the opposite direction. A gas worker with any safety concern about the system is required to hand the owner or operator a defect notice spelling out the problem.
No notice is needed where the concern is fixed straight away through gas work. So a fault found and repaired on the spot ends as a completed job, while a fault left standing ends as paperwork you need to act on.

A Lost or Missing Gas Certificate
Start with the paperwork from the original gas job, then ask the licensed gasfitter who did the work, because that licence holder issued your certificate. Most people find it filed with the invoice or the handover documents.
Still nothing? The state keeps gas system compliance certificates in a searchable online system, and its search page finds them by property. An owner can look up an address and pull up the record that way.
One change worth knowing: plate rules changed in July 2025, and most installations no longer need a physical plate. So if your older system has a plate and a newer one does not, that difference alone is not a problem.

Who Gets Which Copy of the Certificate
The licence holder issues the original to you, the owner, through the state's online portal as soon as the installation is complete. Where fuel gas reaches your property through a distribution network, the gas network operator also receives a copy, and the licence holder sends it within 5 days.
Since the July 2025 change, a plate is mostly history: the certificate issued through the portal is the record that matters.
For a copy of what the job involved on the gas side, our gas cooktop installation page sets out the supply checks and the fitting steps behind the paperwork.

Checks a Certificate Does Not Replace
The certificate records one event: the installation or alteration as it stood on the day it was finished. The Queensland Government separately advises that gas appliances be checked and serviced periodically by a licensed gasfitter, and used to the manufacturer's instructions.
Between visits, the owner's part is visual only:
- Look regularly for corrosion, deterioration or damage on cylinders, pipework and appliances.
- Keep combustible materials away from appliances.
- Keep cylinders secured away from ignition and heat sources, with the valve shut when not in use, even when the cylinder is empty.
Never check for a leak yourself. If you can smell gas indoors, the urgent steps are on our gas leak repairs page.

Cylinder Care on the Foothills Blocks
Cashmere sits in bushland at the foot of the D'Aguilar Range, and bushfire is a lived memory here: flames menaced houses along Old School Road, Winn Road and Clear Mountain Road back in 2014. That history makes the cylinder rule practical rather than theoretical on these blocks: bottles need securing clear of heat, and the valve closed whenever the barbecue is not in use.
Storm season adds its own job. Overland flow runs along Peppermint Drive and Ron Bischof Close, and runoff that shifts gear around a yard can leave a cylinder loose or lying near an ignition source. A quick look after a storm is worth the minute it takes.
Renters have a faster path. A gas leak and a gas supply failure are emergency repairs under the tenancy Act, so a tenant who smells gas calls us and the property manager straight away.

Gas Certificate Questions We Answer
Call (07) 3524 0766What is a gas compliance certificate?
The document is the licence holder's signed confirmation that finished gas work meets the rules. The licensed gasfitter gives you, the owner, the original straight after the work is done.
Does every gas job end with a compliance certificate?
No, not every job does. The paperwork follows installs and alterations. A gasfitter who instead finds a safety concern hands you a defect notice, unless the fault is fixed on the spot.
Who gets a copy of the gas compliance certificate?
You, as the Cashmere property owner, get the original from the state's online portal once the installation is finished. Where a network supplies the gas, the network operator also gets a copy within 5 days.
How long does a gas compliance certificate last?
No, there is no expiry period. The certificate records the installation at completion, and servicing frequency depends on the appliance and how hard it gets used, with any work priced by a fixed quote.
Are gas leaks emergency repairs for Cashmere renters?
Yes, both count. A gas leak and a failure or breakdown of the gas supply are emergency repairs under Queensland's tenancy Act, as is a failed appliance providing cooking, heating or hot water.
